Sanipes will promote the export of fan shells from seafood associations in Piura

The National Fisheries Health Agency (Sanipes) reported that the value chain will be strengthened and the increase in the export of hydrobiological species of 155 mariculture associations and two private concessions of Piura, through the health reevaluation of the nine production areas of Sechura Bay, an area that concentrates 80% of the national production of fan shells that is exported to the European Union, the United States, Canada, China, Japan, United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil and Chile.

To publicize the progress in the revaluation studies, the establishment of a joint work plan to meet the information needs, the closing of technical gaps, and the updating of manuals, Sanipes organized the workshop “Health revaluation: dissemination and opportunities for improvement ”, which brought together the health coordinators representing the associations of mariculturists in the production areas of Sechura Bay (Chulliyachi, Matacaballo, Las Delicias, Constante, Parachique, Barrancos, Vichayo, Puerto Rico) and the production areas of Nonura and San Pedro, as well as representatives of processing plants.

The executive president of Sanipes, Johnny Marchán, indicated that the synergy achieved between the health authority, health coordinators and mariculturists (private sector) is necessary to successfully complete the health revaluation project, because it allows optimizing resources, agreeing on solutions and reducing times; and it will be vital in the full operation of the productive areas, since The objective is that all the areas classify under the new model of Risk-Based Control in Process, which will create conditions for mariculturists to improve their production and accelerate their commercial processes.

“Sanipes takes advantage of this research scenario to carry out no less than six studies, implement a new methodology for classifying production areas, update the monitoring program for sanitary parameters, update the official control program, streamline surveillance and traceability, create new self-regulation tools and adjust part of the regulatory framework applicable to the bay, in addition to the forthcoming start of an early warning study for phenomena such as El Niño and La Niña, in conjunction with the mariculturists, ”Marchán added.

It should be noted that the revaluation of the production areas of Sechura Bay —which is carried out every six years— should confirm the quality of the fan shells, which will generate confidence in the national and international markets and consumers, thereby guaranteeing the continuity of the use of the local resource.

The study, which lasts for 14 months, will also identify opportunities for improvement in terms of the governance of the bay to prevent or avoid the appearance of sources of pollution that impact the quality of the resources, which should be developed by the local authorities and own mariculturists.

“Before we finish the revaluation study, we will start with the mariculturists a preparatory health pre-audit for a future audit to be carried out by the health authority of the European Union, the main destination of the scallop that is produced in Sechura; This being, with its technical and participatory rigor, the model that will make fishing and aquaculture activities sustainable over time ”, he concluded.
