The price of onions and chili peppers remain high in the main markets of the capital, with increases that reach 40% compared to previous weeks, according to a tour carried out this Monday by a team from La República.
For example, in the market La Aurora del Lima fence, the prices of chicken, eggs, lemons, tomatoes, potatoes and rice remained stable compared to the previous batch. However, the onion remained at peaks of S/6.50, much higher than the S/3 of a few weeks ago.
Also in this district, the Limoncillo market stalls showed incipient increases in the price of onion, which went from S/7 to S/8 per kilogram. Other products, such as tomatoes -which went from S/6 to S/5-, had even lower prices.
On the other side of the city, the San Ramón de Jesus Maria you could see a significant increase from S/4 to S/9 for onion, while chili went from S/6 to S/10, in just one month for both.
In chorrillos and Villa Maria del Triunfo, the picture is similar with prices for red onion that are close to S/8, unlike a few weeks ago. The chili, for its part, can be found between S/10 and S/12 per kilogram.
According to the merchants consulted by this means, the increases focused on onion and chili are due to the fact that “they are not in season”, so they do not rule out that they continue to rise.
