Industrial Park of Ancón will allow to expand export supply

With a view to promoting growth and investment in the northern area of the capital, the Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversión) plans to award the Ancón Industrial Park, one of the most significant projects in its portfolio, during the fourth quarter of this year.

According to Rogger Incio, project manager at Proinvestmentit is estimated that this work will require approximately US$760 million, although it clarifies that the investment commitments will be based on minimum infrastructure milestones necessary for their award.

The official also explained that the award modality will be through the “project in assets” mechanism. “It is a State asset that is transferred to the private so that it assumes the entire investment from design to operation.ny maintenance of this infrastructure,” he explained to La República.

In addition, he commented that the generation of employment is expected to be significant, with an average of 50,000 direct jobs and up to 120,000 collateral jobs related to the industries established in the park.

Regarding terms, an investment commitment horizon of up to 22 years is estimated, “however, some investors could develop all the industrial land in a shorter term.”

Once awarded, the investor will have 14 months to present his investment and project development plan. Subsequently, construction is estimated to start an average of 16 to 18 months after approval of the plans.

So far, interest has been received from companies from China, Korea, Spain, Chile and the United States.

Diversification in shipments

According to Rafael Zacnich, manager of Economic Studies at Comex Peru, the construction of the Industrial Park of Ancón will allow the generation of new production and export alternatives for our country. In this sense, he points out that an increase in shipments from manufacturing sectors such as textiles, metal mechanics, foundry, handicrafts, among others, is expected.

In addition, it stands out that micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (mypes), which represent 75% of exporting companies, only contribute 2% of the total value exported. Thus, it calculates that the implementation of this park could increase the participation of these business units, allowing their percentage of exports to reach up to 5% of the total shipments.

For his part, Edgar Vásquez Vela, director of CIEN-ADEX, stresses that the construction of the Ancón Industrial Park is essential due to the scarcity of spaces in Metropolitan Lima to establish new industrial enclaves.

According to Vásquez, the proper implementation of the park will firstly improve industrial productivity, “a crucial aspect to increase the country’s competitiveness.” He also warns that it will significantly reduce logistics costs. “It is seen as a solution for Peruvian trade, which faces this challenge as one of the main obstacles to its growth,” he stressed.

It will generate an integrated ecosystem

According to Proinversión, the Ancón Industrial Park will be developed on a 1,338.22-hectare (ha) plot of land, of which 715.74 ha correspond to developable land for the development of industrial and commercial activities, technology transfer (R&D), contributions, public recreation area, services and truck center.

“The project will promote the consolidation of the productive and logistics corridor in Lima: Callao port, Jorge Chávez International Airport, the Industrial Park and the port of Chancay, and will generate an integrated ecosystem in which large, medium-sized and SMEs will be present,” according to José Salardi, director of Proinversión.
