MEF forecasts that inflation will close in July below 6%

Inflation in annual terms fell to 6.46% in June thanks to the decrease in chicken and energy prices. For July, it is expected to fall below the 6% threshold, according to the head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Alex Contreras.

After the blows of Cyclone Yaku, the social conflict, El Niño Costero and dengue, “it is observed that in July there will be a significant recovery,” the official told TV Peru.

“A large part of Con Punche Peru will be key in this recovery,” he added.

The previous day, the minister stated at a press conference that the economy would also have its highest growth so far this year at the end of the national month and called it “whimsical” that it is said that we are in a technical recession.

In this line, Contreras stressed that the GDP will recover towards the third and fourth quarters. The update of its projection for this year —set at 2.5%— will be given in a month.
