The Government installed this Thursday, July 20, the Executive Board for the Promotion of Peru as a Destination for Film Locations. The event was attended by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Álex Contreras; the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Juan Carlos Mathews Salazar; and the Minister of Culture, Leslie Urteaga Peña. Representatives of the private sector linked to this activity were also present.

The objective of this working group is to address, identify, promote and propose actions that make Peru an attractive destination for international production companies. Likewise, it seeks to encourage those interested in using locations in the country as settings for their film productions.

the minister Alex Contreras He pointed out that Peru has to generate new poles of development and that in the film industry there are advantages and capabilities to develop. “The objective of this executive table should be to obtain quick measures so that in 2024 we can begin to see results,” said the head of the MEF.

“We recognize the benefits that positioning Peru as a destination for film locations will bring in the generation of employment, economic income, increase in related economic activities such as hotels, restaurants, transportation, among others, as well as exposure as a tourist destination of interest,” he added.

The official urged the technical teams of the entities involved to work in an accelerated manner, considering the implementation of rapid measures such as the creation of a single window to meet the demands of international producers. It is expected to present progress in a short term and a next meeting is expected in two months to evaluate the progress.

It should be noted that, according to TCI Research —a consultancy specialized in global tourism issues—, film tourism has experienced a significant increase, since it reached US$60 million in the last four years worldwide. It is estimated that approximately 80 million tourists choose their destinations based on their favorite movies and series.
