In Peru, more than 7 million households use LPG cylinders for cooking

In Peru, mMore than 7 million households, which is equivalent to around 28 million people, they are using soccer balls LPG in their kitchens and, to a lesser extent, for heating and lighting their homes, which has made it possible to reduce the consumption of firewood, coal, kerosene and dung, highly polluting fuels and responsible for serious bronchopulmonary diseases in the population, according to the Peruvian Society of Liquefied Gas (SPGL).

According to the union, of the 7 million homes that use this fuel, 5 and a half million are in socioeconomic levels D and E of the population, which reflects the social importance of this fuel.

“The high consumption of LPG in the country is due to the fact that the packaging and distribution chain through retail distributors is very extensive at the national level, which means that LPG reaches practically the entire country, even in areas that are very difficult to access,” mentions the SPGL.

In addition, it stands out that in the business sector, LPG has penetrated sectors such as shopping centers, the poultry industry, industrial ovens, bakeries, boilers, clothes dryers, among others. “Micro, small and medium-sized companies have seen their costs and their environmental impact reduced, due to the efficiency and reliability of this fuel”, he underlines.

Likewise, he adds that the demand for LPG cylinders in Peru has been increasing notably in recent years and today reaches 8 million cylinders per month.

“LPG is a valuable resource for the country and its population. Guaranteeing its stability in the market, eradicating smuggling and promoting an equitable policy in its use and commercialization are key tasks for the future of energy and the well-being of the Peruvian population”, concludes the SGLP.
