Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba accused Russia to put at risk food safety by suspending the Black Sea agreement and assured that his country is looking for solutions to be able to continue exporting grain to international markets.
“In the coming hours and days there will be very intensive consultations at all levels to find a solution to this huge problem that Russia has created for the world,” the Ukrainian foreign minister said.
The Black Sea agreement was reached in July 2022 by Turkey and the United Nations (UN); However, last Monday, Russia decided to terminate it on the grounds that the sanctions imposed by the West, after the invasion of Ukraine, prevent the part of the pact that must also guarantee Russian food and fertilizer exports from being fulfilled.
In response, the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, opted to do everything necessary to keep the corridor that allows his country to export grain operational, even without the participation of Russia.
“Even without Russia it is necessary to do everything possible to ensure that we can use this corridor. We are not afraid. The shipping companies have contacted us. They have told us that if Ukraine lets out and Turkey lets in, they are all ready to continue supplying grain,” he stated.

Meanwhile, from Moscow it was pointed out that the UN has three months to achieve the resumption of the agreement if it achieves “concrete results” regarding the compliance of the Russian part of the pact.
The agricultural bank reconnection Russian, Rosselkhozbank, al SWIFT; the lifting of sanctions on spare parts for agricultural machinery; the unblocking of logistics and transport insurance; the unfreezing of assets, and the resumption of operation of the Togliatti-Odesa ammonia pipeline, which exploded on June 5, are the demands from the Kremlin.
The data
Worry. The IMF said Russia’s exit from the pact worsens prospects for global food security and threatens to exacerbate food inflation.
