The National Agricultural Convention (Conveagro), the most important agricultural union in the country, announced that it will support the day of protest against the central government and Congress called for this Wednesday, July 19, which will take place in regions such as Cajamarca, Lambayeque, Piura, Puno, Cusco, Apurímac, La Libertad, Ica, Lima, Tumbes, San Martín, Huánuco, Junín, among others.
In this sense, Conveagro expressed through a statement its rejection of all types of violence and called on all sectors involved in the mobilization to maintain respect for the integrity and dignity of citizens and peasants.
Likewise, it demanded that the National Police of Peru guarantee the right to peaceful protest and protect the well-being of all the people who participate in the march. “We call on the authorities, social sectors and the media not to limit, degrade or negatively label this democratic action,” he added.
Finally, the union held the Government and Congress responsible for the current sociopolitical crisis that affects the well-being and development of the country. “This is reflected in the abandonment of peasant communities, the agricultural sector, and livestock, who face challenges such as climate change, food and nutritional insecurity, and inequality of opportunities. We demand a quick and effective response from the authorities to address these problems,” he said.
