The Peruvian government made official the Law 31838which declares the creation and registration of the “Puno Brand” as a development strategy to distinguish the products and services of the aforementioned department of national interest.
According to the document published today in the Official Gazette El Peruano, the products and services of the new Puno Brand are distinguished by having a cultural, historical and natural legacy, quality (standardization and specialization), being innovative, and other characteristics established by the Government Region of Puno.
The declaration of national interest for the creation and registration of the Puno Brand is an initiative of the Foreign Trade and Tourism Commission of Congress, based on Bill 2954/2022-CR. It will correspond to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) to make it effective.
Congressman Edgar Tello, president of the working group, pointed out that the legislative initiative aims to identify products and services from Puno that can be disseminated in an inclusive manner in local and international markets.
The main products that make up Puno’s exportable offer are quinoa, coffee, trout in its different presentations, and clothing based on alpaca fiber.
There are also products from mining, folklore with its various dances, conventional and rural community tourism with its main attractions such as Lake Titicaca, the gastronomy of typical Novo-Andean dishes, among others.
