He National tourism does not go through its best moment ad portas at National Holidayssince the hotel reservations are still not in the number expected for this holiday, according to Fredy Gamarrageneral manager of the Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Allied (Now Peru).
According to Gamarra, this is not only due to the announcement of the protests next Wednesday July 19but also due to errors in the handling of information related to the dengue and to the syndrome of Guillain barre.
“Embassies are scared by these emergency measures and inform their countries, generating warnings, and in reality we know that this is an administrative problem, it is not a health problem; but unfortunately our health authorities do not help at all, at least for the tourism sector,” he commented.
In this sense, he called on the Foreign Ministry to act quickly and clarify to the international community that there is no health problem in the country.
In addition, he emphasized that it is not only about promoting tourism during the National Holidays, but also about taking advantage of school vacation days in which many families travel to the interior of the country.
Along the same lines, Gamarra highlighted the importance of President Dina Boluarte declaring tourism as a State policy. He recalled that, before the pandemic, the tourism sector was the second generator of foreign exchange in the country, but this year only 2 million tourists are expected to arrive, compared to the previous 4.4 million.
Finally, the representative of Ahora Perú also pointed out that the loss of connectivity has had a negative impact on tourism, with more than 1,200 fewer monthly flights in Peru. In addition, he mentioned the problems related to the entrance to Machu Picchu and the lack of promotion of destinations for internal tourism.
