Since the beginning of the year, Sberbank has registered more than 20 attempts to attack its offices at the direction of fraudsters, the bank’s press service reports.
According to the company, attackers call victims on behalf of law enforcement or bank security officers and inform them of fraudulent transactions with their funds. After that, the victim is pushed to criminal actions: “for example, under the pretext of helping the police to apprehend the scammers, the victim is asked to set up a “smoke screen”, detonate a firecracker or set fire to a bank office,” the report says.
If attackers manage to steal a citizen’s money, they confess to fraud and offer to return the stolen money in exchange for an act of sabotage – setting off fireworks in a branch or attacking a bank employee. As a result, the victim does not receive his money, but he himself violates the law.
Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank Stanislav Kuznetsov stressed that by following the instructions of fraudsters, their victims may become defendants in a criminal case of a terrorist act.
