Grilled Chicken Day: sales would double

This July 16th is the Grilled Chicken Day, a date that recognizes one of the most famous dishes of Peruvian food.

In this sense, it is also an opportunity for many entrepreneurs in the poultry industry, who hope to promote and achieve the highest number of sales on this key Sunday, which registers greater demand than Mother’s Day.

“This year we hope to sell some 600 grilled chickenswhich is 60% of the 1,000 that we sold in 2019 on this day,” reported Wilmer Olaya, Pio’s Chicken Marketing Managerto the Republic.

Although dispatch expectations are still do not exceed those of the pre-pandemicthey are higher than those achieved in 2022, when despite having 100% capacity, only 40% of what was sold was registered before the impact of Covid-19, added Olaya.

For its part, the chicken Don Rancherito has the projection of being able to sell at least 300 chickens on this day, which means an advance of 50% in relation to what was traded in the same period in 2022.

It should be noted that the average ticket for both venues is between S/60 and S/72; and most families ask for whole chickens.

During this 2023, poultry shops have been affected by high inflation and the rise in inputs. For April, the cost of the bird in retail markets increased by 8% and reached S/13 per kilo, according to data from the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri). However, by June the price has presented a downward trend and it was located in the S / 10.

Increase in deliveries

Another of the means most used by Peruvians are requests by application. Thus, by 2022, Rappi recorded that the grilled chicken quarter was in the top 5 orders most requested by users. In addition, in relation to 2021, this famous dish increased its sales by 80% and during the celebration of its day in 2022 its trade increased by 70%.

The cities that most request this food through delivery are Lima, Arequipa, Trujillo and Piura, especially during the weekend, informed Stefano Delfino, head of Restaurants for rappi. In this case, the average ticket is approximately S/75.

The key

figures. At the national level there are 13,000 grilled chicken restaurantsaccording to the Peruvian Poultry Association (APA). Likewise, for the preparation of the chicken, more than 150 million birds a yearwhich is equivalent to 20% of the annual production in the poultry sector.
