The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported that almost 150,000 formal jobs did not recover compared to the pre-pandemic levelat the end of the first half of 2023.

According to the report on the behavior of INEI labor market indicators, the adequately employed population in Metropolitan Lima barely exceeded 3 million people, compared to 3,150,000 in 2019. The exact reduction has been 149,300 workers.

In addition, the employed population in Lima grew by 6.5% compared to the same period of the previous yearbut the unemployment rate rose 10.9%, according to official data released this Saturday.

This represents an increase of 14% compared to 2021 and an escalation of 137.3% when compared to 2020.

The study also reveals that the unemployment rate affected around 366,000 people who actively sought employment in this period, a rate 1.2% lower than in 2022.
