Fishing sector drags negative figures for the fifth consecutive month

According to the technical report Conjunctural Advancement of the Economic Activity of the INEI, the production of the fishing sector fell to -33.15% during October of this year compared to the same period in 2020, thus reaching its fifth consecutive month with negative figures.

This is due to the reduction in fishing of maritime origin (-34.92%) due to the lower landing of species for direct human consumption for canning (-62.1%), cured (-60.5%), frozen (-42.0%) and for consumption in fresh state (-21.6%).

Otherwise, they detail that the landings of species for indirect human consumption (fishmeal and fish oil) increased, extracting 1,260 tons of anchovy compared to the 1,016 tons reported in the same month of the previous year, registering a rebound of 24.04%.

On the other hand, the fishing of continental origin contracted -22.49% due to the lower capture of resources for fresh and frozen.

INEI specifies that, compared to the same month of 2019, fish production decreased by 27.12%.

Mining and hydrocarbons grows slightly

In the tenth month of this year, mining and hydrocarbon production increased 1.37% compared to the same period in 2020, thanks to the higher production of the metallic mining subsector that grew by 0.42% due to the higher volumes of iron production ( 9.8%), gold (6.7%), copper (2.7%), molybdenum (2.2%) and silver (1.5%), attenuated by the drop in zinc (-15.2% ), tin (-8.4%) and lead (-4.4%).

While the hydrocarbons subsector rose 7.24% due to the greater exploitation of crude oil (17.0%), natural gas (8.8%) and natural gas liquids (1.3%).

Internal consumption of cement

Regarding the internal consumption of cement, this grew by 0.63% thanks to the continuous execution of construction projects in the public and private spheres.
