Arequipa region could not meet deadline to approve addendum for Majes II

The Regional Government of Arequipa (GRA) suffers a crisis never seen before. This would force the Autonomous Authority of Majes (Autodema) request a new extension to Cobra, the Majes Siguas II concessionaire, to approve or reject addendum 13. “It is evident that we cannot meet the given deadline,” confessed Jorge Luis Suclla, general manager of GRA.

The schedule proposed by Autodema was that the members of the Arequipa Regional Council (CRA) debate and vote on November 6 and that addendum 13 It is signed by the governor the next day. Thus, it would not be exceeded on December 8, the last day of the extension. However, there is no formal request to the CRA by its incumbent president Ysrael Zúñiga, nor is there an acting governor.

The president of the Ah Hoc Commission of the CRA, Jose Luis Hancco, He asserted that to debate the addendum there must be a formal request from Ysrael Zúñiga to prepare an opinion. “If you are going to sign an agreement you have to have an opinion.”

The counselors with their advisers are also reviewing the addendum that implies the modification of the project budget for US $ 104 million that must be subsidized with the land auction. Hancco noted that the GRA committed the Council when it is an autonomous body.

Meanwhile, last Monday, councilors met with the Arequipa congressmen for Majes II. Suclla indicated that there was no request from the parliamentarians for the ownership of the project to pass to the central government, as it transpired days ago.
