As a result of the increase in the rates for its vehicles to unload food, the Great Wholesale Market of Lima will go on strike for 48 hours from Friday, July 14 to 15.
“As a measure of struggle, no merchant or worker will attend those days,” the vice president of the Lima Wholesale Market, Roberto Goicochea, told Radio Nacional.
In the last few hours, the merchants protested the charge of S/2 for the entry of minor vehicles, which would rise to S/7 per ton, according to a complaint by Fadrid Salazar, representative of the onion business, to the aforementioned radio station.
“That is, they charge for entry and exit. Who do they directly affect? To the most needy people, to the producer entrepreneurs, to the taxi drivers, to those who make buses and to those of the common pots“, he narrowed.
There is consensus to create a dialogue table for merchants with the Empresa Municipal de Mercados SA (EMMSA). Goicochea specified that no businessman, stevedore and driver will work until between Friday and Saturday.
