Castillo confirms Peru’s aspiration to join the OECD

President Pedro Castillo issued a letter to the Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Mathias Cormann, with the aim of ratifying the aspiration of our country to join as a member of the body based in Paris, reported the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

“President Pedro Castillo sent a letter to the Secretary General of the OECD, Mathias Cormann, in which he ratified Peru’s firm aspiration to become a member of this organization, in order to raise standards in the implementation of public policies, “wrote the Foreign Ministry in its account from Twitter.

In addition, he added that “the link between Peru and the OECD can continue to promote the improvement of the living conditions of all citizens and mitigate the negative effects of the pandemic.”

In his communication, the Head of State highlighted our country’s commitment to the implementation of public policies that improve the living conditions of all citizens, as well as mitigate the negative effects of the covid-19 pandemic.

President Castillo mentioned to Cormann that our relationship with the multilateral organization is based on the values ​​that Peru shares with its members, such as democracy, the rule of law, respect for human rights, the fight against corruption and protection enviroment.

Since 2018, Peru has been a party to the OECD Convention to Combat Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions (Anti-Bribery Convention) and to the Multilateral Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters. The purpose of this participation is the fight against corruption and the promotion of greater transparency and exchange of information.
