After that in the last two years our country was the scene of international productions such as “Transformes: the awakening of the beasts” and “La reina del sur”, the Executive formed this July 11 the “Executive Board for the promotion of Peru as a destination of film locations”.
The working group, made official by Ministerial Resolution No. 255-2023-EF/10, aims to address, identify, promote and propose actions that allow Peru to become an attractive destination for international production companies; in addition, that benefit and encourage those who have an interest in the country as a destination for film locations in order to contribute to economic growth.
Said team, whose functions of the members are ad honorem, is made up as follows:
- Ministry of Economy and Finance
- culture Ministry
- Ministry of Transport and Communications
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- Ministry of Interior
- Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism
- Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (Promperú)
- National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat)
- National Service of Natural and State Protected Areas (Sernanp)
- National Assembly of Regional Governments (ANGR)
- Association of Municipalities of Peru (AMPE)
- Association of Film Producers of Peru (APCP)
- Union of Filmmakers of Peru (UCP)
- Association of Cinematographic Companies of Peru (AEC Peru)
- Association of Authors of Peruvian Cinematographic Photography (DPF).
The technical committee is installed within a maximum period of ten business days, counted from the day after the publication of this ministerial resolution in the official newspaper El Peruano.
The rule in its recitals highlights that the film industry in our country has grown in recent years and has shown great potential: titles such as “Asu mare”, “Locos de amor”, “La foquita: el 10 de la calle ”, “Willaq pirqa”, among others, have been successful at the box office. Likewise, in 2022, a record was broken when 71 Peruvian feature films were released on various platforms (commercial cinemas, alternative theaters or the internet).
Therefore, this measure affirms that this industry has greater potential that can be exploited if Peru is promoted as a destination for international production locations. In this sense, it ensures that, taking into account the experience of other countries in the region, some of the main impacts achieved are linked to the diversification of economic production by placing the creative industries as a generator of economic income.
