On December 22, the salary that will govern in 2022 will be set, according to the Ministerial Agreement of the Work Portfolio

This morning there was a meeting of the Labor and Wages Council, but no agreements were reached. The Ministry gives more time in order to reach consensus

The National Council of Work and Salaries did not reach an agreement in this third meeting to define the Unified Basic Salary that will govern in 2022. However the Minister of Labor, Patricio Donoso, he is determined that an agreement is reached between the parties. That is why he announced that he ends to sign, this morning, a ministerial agreement by which, for this one time, a new meeting will be held to set said value until December 22.

The reform is made to the ministerial agreement 023 of February 14, 2021, that established the norms for setting the salary of sectoral commissions. To this agreement is added a transitory one that defines the new date of the last meeting.

According to Minister Donoso, it could be possible that the distant current proposals of the workers and employers come closer in the coming days. Currently, employers hIt has been suggested that the salary increase should be calculated based on to the increase in inflation calculated for 2022, while workers have said that, based on the campaign offer of President Guillermo Lasso (go up to $ 500 in four years), it should increase $ 25 in the year, in two parts : $ 12.5 in January and the other $ 12.5 at the beginning of the second semester of 2022.

Minister Donoso also explained that the session held this morning on the 12th floor of the Ministry, starting at 09:00, took place in a democratic environment in which the two sectors were able to speak about their arguments regarding wages.

In this sense, Donoso explained that “This ministry tries to stand out as a forger of a friendly environment between workers and employers” and for this, it will promote more meetings both at the joint level of the Council and with each of the parties.

In the first Meeting of the Wages Council held, only the various macroeconomic data were known that could affect the calculation of wages: inflation, elasticity of employment, productivity, among others. The second session ended without agreement and in this third a final decision was already expected. At the new meeting to be held on December 22, an agreement could be reached. Nevertheless if not, the Ministry will have the power to define the salary, based on inflation.
