After more than five years, from March 2018 to today, the Ecuadorian ambassador to China, Carlos Larrea, ended his diplomatic leadership in the Asian giant. Larrea is recognized by the Ecuadorian government as one of the architects that led to the signing of the trade agreement between the two nations.

Last week, Larre was received at the headquarters of the Chinese Communist Party by Vice Minister Li Mingxiang and Ambassador Wang Yulin, to review the success of the diplomatic, political and trade program between Ecuador and China.

In addition, the Beijing Jintai Art Museum and other relevant Chinese public diplomacy organizations issued a commemorative postcard for the completion of Ambassador Carlos Larrea’s duties in that country, which the Embassy of Ecuador in China thanked and highlighted. The text of the postcard is Ambassador Larre’s message to the Chinese people written in Chinese and English: “I want to convey to the glorious Chinese people my deep gratitude for these more than five extraordinary years of historical milestones achieved, in the framework of deep respect and fluent, sincere and unconditional dialogue (… ) and experiences shared with the magnificent civilization to which the People’s Republic of China belongs”.

For his part, in one of his last appearances as ambassador, at the Asia World Expo last May, Larrea emphasized the cooperation between China and Ecuador. “Economic and trade cooperation has become a significant part of bilateral relations. Ecuador is the fourth country in Latin America to sign a free trade agreement with China and this will open up more employment opportunities and diversify the Ecuadorian economy,” said the diplomat who, in his final days in office, also sought China’s support for Ecuador’s initiatives to create an organization megadiverse countries, as well as those within the framework of negotiations on an agreement to stop plastic pollution, including the marine environment.

Larrea is a career diplomat. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador in 1996, after attending the Ecuadorian Diplomatic Academy and receiving the Honorato Vásquez Award for the best graduate. In 2017, he was promoted to the rank of ambassador.
