He Ministry of Culture (Mincul) extended the capacity of Machu Picchu until December 31, 2023, which will remain at 4,044 daily visits.
Ministerial Resolution No. 000255-2023-MC communicates the decision to Unesco and manages the monitoring of the commitments assumed for the application of the provisions of Ministerial Resolution No. 000224-2022-DM/MC (which had extended the capacity to on June 30), as well as the presentation of respective bi-monthly reports on their compliance and the impact evaluation.
The resolution indicates that the current conditions of conservation of the Llaqta de Machupicchu and the general visit “are stable with respect to social tensions.”
“Although they have not completely disappeared, they have decreased significantly, so that the demand and expectations of services linked to the tourist flow are satisfied,” the document says.
In this way, Mincul urges public and private entities, and citizens in general, to join efforts for the improvement, protection and sustainable management of this important cultural heritage recognized as World Heritage, “by virtue of the Convention on the Protection of Cultural and Natural World Marriage of Unesco”.
The extension of the capacity until December 31 is also notified to the Office of the Vice Minister of Cultural Heritage and Cultural Industries, of the Decentralized Directorate of Culture of Cusco, of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and of the General Directorate of Immovable Archaeological Heritage.
