With an initial investment of between 15 and 20 million dollars, and it could reach up to 50 million dollars in the coming years, the multinational company Emergent Cold Latam, a provider of cold storage and logistics services in Latin America, officially opened this Thursday, June 29 , in Canton Durán, its first frozen product storage center, located at km 4.5 of the Durán Tambo road near the DP World Logistics Center (Centrolog).
With this opening, an initial generation of 50 jobs is foreseen, with 80% filled by experts from the canton. The modern warehouse has a capacity for 10,320 frozen pallets and was built with sustainable technological solutions that guarantee energy and water savings, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability.

David Palfenier, the company’s president and founder, recalled that he founded the company in August 2021 to meet the need for modern cold chain solutions in the market and meet the growing demand of national and global clients. After two years, Emergent Cold Latam currently operates more than 500 trucks and more than 60 refrigerators, including seven new facilities now under construction, for a total of 11 countries in Latin America.
“Here you will see perhaps the most modern installation made in the whole country made by a multinational company that has expertise in this, between us and our investors we have more than 500 offices of this kind in the world and for the first time this capacity here in Ecuador”, noted Palfenier , who added that the investment is from Emergent Cold Latam, but for the benefit of clients, especially shrimp farming companies, who have been looking for a landing company in Ecuador.
However, the founder of Emergentcold Latam, who 3 days ago attended the ceremonial opening of the facilities that received the first products, assured that the center can store any type of frozen food, and they expect customers from other industries as well. The businessman assured that his company’s projections are a continuation of the second and third phases on the land in Durán that has been prepared for future expansions.
Meanwhile, Carlos Merino, CEO of DP World Ecuador, highlighted the alliance between the two companies to bring Emergent Cold Latam to Ecuador. He added that this alliance is also in force in the Dominican Republic and Peru.
