Juliaca. The Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS) closed three savings and credit cooperatives that carried out activities of intermediation or marketing of insurance policies without being duly authorized. These represented a risk for their savers.

They are the Cooperativa de Servicios Múltiples Opción Sur – Coosermul Opción Sur, Cooperativa de Servicios Múltiples Reactivate Perú and Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito San Salvador, which had their headquarters in Juliaca, Puno, Ilave and Lima.

The SBS officials explained that these entities promoted and carried out activities to grant money loans, without being registered in the Registry of Companies and Persons that carry out Financial or Currency Exchange Operations’, in contravention of the provisions of article 11 of the Law 26702.

In the specific case of the San Salvador Cooperative, said entity was not registered in the National Registry of Savings and Credit Cooperatives Not Authorized to Capture Resources from the Public and from the power plants (Coopac Registry).

During the proceedings that were carried out together with the Crime Prevention Prosecutor and the Police, it was warned that these entities will not be able to reopen their doors, and must inform their clients about the closure of their operations and coordinate the return of their contributions.
