The new control tower and the second runway of the Jorge Chávez International Airport from its opening to date it has handled a total of 4,689 domestic and international flights efficiently.
In detail, during the first 10 days of operation, around 389 flights were carried out in a two-hour daily slot. Subsequently, from April 24 to May 31, flight service was increased to three hours a day, with which 2,610 aircraft landings and takeoffs were made.
To date, air operations are maintained for four hours a day from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 1,690 successful operations are being carried out.
This work is part of the operational transition stage in which the airport is, with the objective that air traffic controllers, pilots, crew, ground personnel and the entire aeronautical community become familiar with the new configuration of the airport.
It should be noted that all the operators that work at the Jorge Chávez International Airport are preparing to gradually move to the phase of operating two landing strips simultaneously, which will happen gradually once the new passenger terminal is completed. in 2025.
