The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) reported that omicron, the new variant of the new coronavirus, will not mean, in the short term, a change in its plans to boost crude oil reserves in the countries it hosts, due to the international fuel crisis.
Through its spokespersons, the organization stated that it is not advisable to “make hasty decisions, you have to monitor the situation and evaluate it.”
“The appearance of new strains gives rise to analysis (on their impact on oil demand) in the market, because different restrictive measures can be taken by the governments of different countries, it is necessary to see how the situation will develop”, said the Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexandr Novak.
The representative of Russia, one of the main allied countries in the OPEC group, insisted that now it is not necessary to take quick decisions on the revision of growth plans.
In this regard, he asserted that the members of the alliance, which groups together the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (including Russia), have not requested an urgent meeting.
“We have a meeting scheduled for December 2, nobody has asked to advance the date,” he said, quoted by the Interfax agency. Novak stressed that despite the fall in the price of oil by 10% after the appearance of the new variant, today it has already risen “by almost 4%”.
