The regional governor of Apurimac, Baltazar Lantarón, harshly questioned the Government of peter castle this Thursday, September 29, at Perumin 2022. The authority pointed out that the Executive contributes to worsening mining conflicts before giving them a resolution.
Lantarón participated in a round table of Perumin, and referred to the case of the conflict of The Bambas. “In Las Bambas, I told the premier (Aníbal Torres) ‘put on your pants and go Challhuahuacho’. He told me that they were going to kidnap him.”
The governor added that there is a poor response in conflict resolution, by appointing inexperienced officials to deal with problems. “(The Executive) sends incipient firefighters who add fuel to the conflict. The communities want people to come who provide solutions, ministers or deputy ministers.”
Regarding the issue of Las Bambas, he maintained that a dialogue table is still being held with the community of Huancuirewhich claims land where a pit will be located for the expansion of the mining company.
Finally, Baltazar Lantarón pointed out that the low execution of the mining canon is not due to the inability of the regional governors, but because of the legislation that imposes obstacles. “The State contracting law is obsolete.”
