Sales of domestic trade in the country they exceeded S / 4,600 million last July, which represents a growth of 1.4% compared to the same month of 2021, reported the Ministry of Production (Produces).
The head of Produce, Jorge Prado Palomino, stated that this result responds to the increase in the billing of supermarkets and hypermarkets (1.4%) pharmacy and drugstores (16.5%), and bookstores and stationery items (66.5%).
“Internal trade sales in July maintained a positive result, they have even managed to exceed the levels of prepandemic. This is due to a gradual recovery of domestic demand, despite the rise in prices of the most consumed products of the population that has been generating a change in consumption habits”, he highlighted.
Likewise, he asserted that internal trade sales accumulate 17 months of continuous growth, driven by the growth of internal demand close to 2% and the opening of new commercial premises.

According to figures from the General Office of Impact Assessment and Economic Studies of Produce, supermarket and hypermarket sales registered a slight increase of 1.4% in July 2022, due to the greater demand for food (+8%) , beverages and tobacco (+6.6%) and clothing and footwear (+5.5%).
Regarding the category of books, newspapers and stationery items, the increase was 66.5%, mainly due to the increase in the demand for stationery products and office items (+82.9%).
Meanwhile, pharmacies and drugstores increased their placements by +16.5%, this responds to the increase in sales of pharmaceutical and medicinal products (+19.2%), and to a lesser extent, by sales of personal care products (+6 ,3%).
In contrast, a decrease in sales was observed in the activities of department stores (-1.6%), hardware and finished goods (-7.2%) and home equipment (-13.8%).
