The president of the Congress of the Republic, José Williams, the congresswoman Lady Camones and the head of the Association of Winemakers of Peru, Andrés Choy, demanded to promulgate the modifications promoted for the law that establishes taxes on games and sports betting at a distance.
The norm, approved by a large majority in Parliament, will increase the tax collection of the national treasury. For this reason, Camones urged President Dina Boluarte and Prime Minister Alberto Otárola to make the aforementioned device official in order “to ensure tax collection.”
“It must be taken into account that a percentage of this collection obtained by this line of games and online sports betting, will be destined to address mental health problems, a problem that has been postponed for years in Peru,” said Camones Soriano.
For his part, Andrés Choy trusted that President Boluarte “does not give in to the campaign of misinformation and pressure exerted by certain interested economic agents, who point out that if this law is enacted, Peru’s entry into the OECD is in danger.”
“These lobbyists want to misrepresent reality. For example, Colombia, which is a member of the OECD, charges taxes to all companies, Colombian and foreign, dedicated to the field of games and sports betting. We have explained this to the MEF, in the work groups that we have had, ”he said.
It should be remembered that the Executive Branch has until next Wednesday, June 28, to promulgate the aforementioned regulation, which has the favorable opinion of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), the CGTP and other entities.
