The Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) ordered the circulation of a new silver coin in commemoration of the bicentennial of the Congress of the Republic (1822-2022). This decision was made official through Circular No. 0021-2022-BCRP, published this September 21 in the newspaper El Peruano.
The special coin It has a legal denomination of S/ 1 and is already in circulation. This anniversary piece, minted in silver alloy, weighs 1 ounce and is 37 mm in diameter. The maximum approved issue is 5,000 units and the minting year is 2022. The order was approved by the general manager of the BCRP, Eduardo Llosa Villacorta.
The collector’s item shows on the back the sculptural group in allegory to the Constitution, located on the facade of the Congress. The central female figure represents the Political Constitution; the one on the left to justice and the right to the law. At the top, the text “1822 Bicentennial 2022” is displayed, while below it reads “Congress of the republic”.
On the obverse, as usual, there is the coat of arms, the text “Central Reserve Bank of Peru”, the year of minting and the denomination in letters: “one sun”. The institution headed by Julio Velarde it is based on articles 42, 43 and 44 of its Organic Law to issue this type of numismatic collections.
How much is the silver coin for the bicentennial of Congress?
The BCRP ordered that the silver coin be offered in its virtual store (https://tiendavirtual.bcrp.gob.pe/tiendabcrp/), while its sale price will be “readjusted according to the evolution of costs” . Currently, this silver piece can be purchased for S/ 132.
The institution specifies that the delivery period for these purchases could take up to 30 calendar days. They also stressed that “the total amount of each individual transaction may not exceed the value of S / 1,000”. The most sold special coin by the BCRP is that of its own centenary, with a sale value of S/ 132. It is followed by the coins for the Pope’s visit to Peru in 2018 (S/ 147) and the centenary of the Escuela Nacional Superior Autónoma de Bellas Artes (S/ 132).
