The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) authorized the transfer of S/468,798,859 million in favor of the Agroperú Fund to finance the payment of the Fertiabonus which will start shipping this week.

And it is that before the failure of the fertilizer tender, Minister Andrés Alencastre assured that the delivery of the Fertiabono will enable farmers to have urea for their crops from this week.

“Urea exists in stock in commercial houses in Peru and that is what we are activating (with Fertiabono) to attend to the emergency. The farmers are going to have the fertilizers in the field starting this week and it will not stop until the allocated resources are exhausted, ”he said.

The subsidy is aimed at farmers with up to 10 hectares of crops to subsidize the purchase of fertilizers for the agricultural campaign.

However, to be beneficiaries, the producers of the economic support must be registered in the Register of Agricultural Producers (PPA) which is currently developing the Midagri.

The PPA to date has registered 600,502 agricultural producers, of which 330,561 are considered beneficiaries of the Fertiabono, according to César Santisteban, director of the General Directorate of Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation of Midagri Policies.

However, Santisteban explained to La República that the first list of beneficiaries will include only farmers registered until August 31. And to this list the criteria of 0 to 10 hectares and of the 40 prioritized crops that are not organic will be applied. “The first list of producers will have approximately 285,000 producers,” he detailed and estimated that the next list of beneficiaries would come out at the end of the month.

Cooperation in the elaboration of the register

The rate of registration of farmers in the PPA is currently 6,000 producers per day and by the end of the year Midagri expects to reach one million registered. To achieve this objective, at the request of the agrarian unions, work will begin in alliance with the irrigation user boards at the national level.

“We are working in a coordinated manner with the user boards so that they reach us with their databases and with this we constitute the pre-registration of producers,” revealed Santisteban and stressed that last week, the Midagri Statistics Directorate has sent trades to all the presidents of the boards at the national level to carry out the registration.

In this regard, Eduardo Contreras, manager of the National Confederation of Water Users Boards of Peru (Conajup), indicated that they are already working on the PPA pre-register.

However, he mentioned that there are some criteria required by Midagri that make it difficult to prepare this document, such as the farmer’s cell phone number, the georeferencing of his crop plot and email, which are almost impossible to obtain, according to Contreras. .

Resignation in the hands of Castillo

The Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Andrés Alencastre, affirmed yesterday, before the possibility of his resignation, that this decision is in the hands of President Pedro Castillo. This, after the third failed process of international purchase of urea.

“That is a decision of the president. At all times, since I took the oath and the proposal to take care of this office, the resignation letter has been on the table and has been signed”, commented the minister.
