The taxi drivers’ union expects and is waiting for the Constitutional Court to pass a favorable verdict on Regulation 742 for strengthening the family economy, in which they are included again as popular trades in the Tax Regime for Entrepreneurs and Popular Trades (Rimpe) and to abolish the obligation of electronic invoicing.
The president of the Guayas Taxi Drivers Union, Jorge Gómez, says that these reforms are in their favor because they will no longer have to issue an electronic invoice, but a bill of sale. “Let’s hope that everything will be favorable to implement this reform that we are interested in for the union of the yellow forces once and for all,” he said after the hearing held by the Court last Tuesday.
Interventions at the Constitutional Court focused on why the decree on the tax law is urgent, SRI warned that there will be problems with Rimpe if it is not adopted this year
Likewise, it indicates that through the president of the National Federation of Taxi Carriers of Ecuador, Jorge Calderón, they are also “waiting” for the treatment of the tax reform and are being informed through informational circulars. “Through our main head we take care of what’s going on,” he says.
According to Gómez, when the reform is given and as established in Rimpe, they would pay up to 60 dollars in income tax, since the annual income of a taxi driver is estimated between 7,000 and 10,000 dollars, since the daily income earns between 25 and 30 dollars.
The decree law also implements the income tax payment table for popular companies, which establishes that establishments with annual sales of up to $2,500 will not pay tax, and for those exceeding that value up to $20,000, quotas will be progressive, which is the maximum $60, according to the reform.
In this sense, the leader indicates that considering the $10,000 that a taxi driver can have, they estimate that they would pay between $10 and $15 in taxes per year.
Taxi drivers will not have the obligation of electronic invoicing and returns to Rimpe, a “very favorable” change of the tax reform
Although they are optimistic that the Constitutional Court will accept the law on the regulation, Gómez expresses that they have been preparing partners to comply with electronic invoicing “with minimal costs”, for which they have considered companies that offer the service. “If not (acknowledges the CC), we will have to follow the same guidelines that we previously maintained,” he says.
According to Gómez, the Guayas taxi drivers union has around 17,000 members, of which around 15,000 are from Guayaquil. At the national level, there are about 100,000 taxi drivers.
