Sunat: tax collection fell 13.7% in the first 5 months of the year

The National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat) reported that, between January and May of this year, net tax collection totaled S/68,577 million, which represents a 13.7% drop compared to the same period in 2022, when they reached S/73,503 million.

Only in May net tax revenue from the central government totaled S/11,537 million, 15.4% less compared to the same month last year. According to the collecting entity, these results are due to the fact that there was a “modest” performance of economic activity for April of around 1.5%.

Imports had a reduction of more than 9%, while the exchange rate fell 1.8% in contrast to the same period in 2022, reducing the amount to be paid in taxes in this area.

The Sunat also indicates that the lower collection is explained by the Postponement of the maturities of the obligations of the tax period April 2023.

In addition, the application of the reduced IGV rate for mypes restaurants and hotels had a negative effect.

Meanwhile, IGV collection reached S/7,091 million, which represents a contraction of 12.6% compared to May of last year. On the other hand, income from income tax was S/4,205 million, equivalent to a decrease of 16.7%.
