Callao is among the 5 most efficient ports in the region

The port of Callao is ranked 5th in the region of those that have demonstrated the most efficiency in 2022 and ranks 35th in the world, according to the third edition of the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI), prepared by the World Bank and the S&P Global Market Intelligence Unit, which analyzed 348 ports all over the planet.

For its part, the port of Paita, Piura, was also evaluated and reached position 101.

In fourth place in Latin America was Coronel (Chile, 32), followed by Buenaventura (Colombia, 21), Posorja (Ecuador, 19) and Cartagena (Colombia, 5). Efficiency is measured by the time that elapses from when a ship arrives at the port until it leaves the berth, after having finished the cargo exchange.

The purpose of this classification is to identify deficiencies and opportunities for improvement to benefit the main parties involved in world trade, such as governments, shipping companies, port and terminal operators, carriers, logistics companies and consumers, the World Bank explained.

The report highlights that the operating conditions of international ports have improved significantly after the unprecedented levels of disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, a period in which there were constant delays and traffic jams.

It should be noted that the Chinese port of yangshan reached the first place of the classification despite periods of strong disturbances caused by typhoons and other factors during 2022.

Ports in the Middle East and North Africa also performed well this year. Three of them finished in the top five: the port of Salalah (Oman, 2), the port of Khalifa (Abu Dhabi, 3), and Tanger Med (4).
