Peruvian S/20 bill among the most beautiful: what does this recognition consist of?
The results of the contest International Bank Note Society show that the Peruvian S/20 bill is among the 19 finalists that are considered the most beautiful globally and is the only one from America. For this election, the entity takes as a reference the designs and their cultural importance of those paper money minted during 2022.
Despite the popularity of virtual currencies, physical money continues to have a great dominance in society. Proof of this is that the winning ticket this year has been the 1,000 Philippine pesos, which displays an eagle on the front, which is an endangered animal. While on the back you can see the Tubbataha Reef Natural Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In total, almost 100 banknotes were launched in 2022 and it is noteworthy that the 20 Peruvian soles, made by the prestigious English company De La Rue International Limited, is located in such an important place. Others that may stand out are: 20 patacas from Macau, 100,000 rupiahs from Indonesia, 100 pounds from Scotland and 10 dirhams from the United Arab Emirates.
What is the Peruvian bill of S/20 like?
The new design of the Peruvian S/20 bill was put into circulation on July 20, 2022 and is printed on cotton. Its predominant color is ocher yellow and shows the image of the writer, anthropologist and professor José María Arguedas.
On the reverse, you can see the images of the condor and the cantuta flower, in addition to the coat of arms.
