With information from URPI-LR

He chicken price continues to decrease and at the beginning of the week it stood at S/9.69 per kilogram in the retail markets of Metropolitan Lima, which represents a decline of 2.1%, according to the latest Bulletin of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri). However, the cost of the egg is still at S/10.

Along these lines, in the Canto Grande Municipal (San Juan de Lurigancho) and Virgen del Carmen (Cercado de Lima) markets, bird meat reported a cost of between S/9 and S/ 9.50, when it was previously marketed at S/14, according to a team from La República. For its part, the egg dropped S/0.50 to S/10.

In the Caja de Agua (SJL) and La Aurora (Cercado de Lima) model markets, chicken was also sold for S/10 —a decrease of S/3 and S/4—, while eggs were sold, as in the other establishments, at S/10, when before it was S/11.

It should be noted that Julio Velarde, president of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP), specified that for this year it is estimated that food prices will normalize in Latin America. The values rose due to the decrease in the main food commodities worldwide, such as wheat, corn and soybean oil, he pointed out during the InPerú event, in Cusco, on June 2.

In addition, he reiterated that due to bird flu the price of chicken has risen sharply, more than 30%, but for May “it has fallen to 3%”, and its price could be corrected in the next two or three months. However, his perspective for the egg is different: “it will take longer due to laying hens, it is expected that in December it will still be 10% above,” added.
