The construction of a new Electrolux Group factory in the state of ParanĂ¡, Brazil, will benefit the Ecuadorian home appliance market. With this, the brand announced an investment of more than 140 million dollars for the construction of a new factory, whose work is expected to start in a month. Upon completion of the first phase in the last quarter of 2024, the factory will start production at 30% of full capacity.

Anticipation of a future increase of between 5,000 and 7,000 million dollars in Ecuadorian exports from free zones, through a legal decree if approved

Currently, Electrolux Ecuador receives 20% of its own stock of products from Brazil, and the amount of products from that country is expected to double from the start of operation of the new facility. In this way, it is expected that by the year 2025, when the construction of the project is estimated to be completed, Ecuador will be able to receive and put on the market electrical devices produced with a 100% sustainable production process.

According to the latest official data from the Central Bank, Ecuador imported a total of 427 million dollars of electrical machinery and equipment, which represents a decrease of 13% compared to what was imported in the same period in 2022. However, that year a total of 1,620 million dollars were imported with a growth of about 14% compared to 2011. The main supplier of these products to Ecuador is China.

Meanwhile, the brand reported that the investment and construction of the new factory are aligned with the goal of achieving climate neutrality in operations by 2030, and sustainability in the entire value chain by 2050.

Leandro Jasiocha, executive director of Electrolux Group Latin America, explained that this factory will serve to expand the production capacity of existing refrigeration lines and for the local and regional production of models that are currently imported from various parts of the world, and that it will also represent the consolidation of the company in Brazil and the rest of the continent.

“With this new unit, we will expand our production capacity and product range. We will be even more competitive, strengthening the economy of the region”, added the manager. It is expected that the economic return, the product of this important investment, will be transferred to all the countries of the continent where the brand is present, including Ecuador.

He confirmed that the 100% sustainable factory will become the first Electrolux plant in Latin America with zero carbon emissions and 100% renewable energy from the start of its operation. Like other Electrolux Group factories located in the region, the facilities will have intelligent water and energy management.

In the case of water, treated industrial/sanitary wastewater will be reused and there will be a dedicated rainwater harvesting system. Additionally, all electricity will come from renewable sources, including the use of solar panels. It should also be noted that the Leed certificate (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is being processed, which will guarantee sustainability in all phases of implementation, from construction to operation.
