The The Chamber of Industry of Guayaquil has strongly condemned the death threats received by the State Prosecutor of the State of Ecuador, Diana Salazar. “We consider this criminal offense a serious attack on democracy and the rule of law,” the union’s official statement reads.

For this business sector, the independence and security of the judiciary are key to democracy. They further believe that intimidation and violence against those in charge of law enforcement undermine justice, threaten the peace and integrity of our society.

In addition to public condemnation, the camera also made “Urgent call to guarantee the safety of the Attorney General and all judges and prosecutors in the country”.

The council’s statement was issued after learning that on June 1, prosecutor Salazar received a video with death threats on her personal WhatsApp number showing six armed men.

Additionally, representatives of the chamber they called on all state authorities to be sensitive with the most urgent needs of Ecuadorians, which are security, investment and employment, putting Ecuador first and seeking cooperation and inter-institutional coordination instead of political disputes that delay the publication of bills.

“It is of crucial importance that our authorities do not waste time and that the priority is to jointly search for solutions to guarantee the order, security and peace that our country needs and deserves,” said the Chamber.
