Last Tuesday, the Executive Power observed the law of Congress that exonerated companies from placing nutritional octagons in supplements and formulas for children, after alleging that it affects the defense of infants and adolescents.
“It is a technical observation that has had a technical report from the Ministry of Health and this demonstrates the interest of the State so that all companies are equal before the law and so that the process of the octagons, which is a public norm, is respected by each and every one of the sectors and economic actors in the country”said the head of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otárola.
In addition, he stressed that all companies have to guarantee the right to nutritional information.
On the other hand, from the Medical College of Peru they welcomed the fact that the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has observed the law, since it violated the Law for the Promotion of Healthy Eating for Minors (Law 30021).
They also demanded that adequate nutrition be promoted for children from vulnerable populations and reinforce the promotion of exclusive breastfeeding up to 6 months, in order to reduce health inequalities.
