Moquegua, Áncash and Cajamarca account for almost 46% of mining investment in Peru

The regions of Moquegua, Ancash Y Cajamarca They concentrated 45.8% of the mining investment executed at the national level between January and July 2022, according to the Mining Statistics Bulletin (BEM) of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem).

The official document explains that Moquegua remained in first place with the significant amount of US$789 million. This amount represents 28.4% of the total measured, mainly due to the development of the “Quellaveco” and “San Gabriel” mining projects (the latter began construction in March 2022).

The second largest share corresponds to Áncash with US$ 250 million, holding 9%, a region in which Compañía Minera Antamina SA stands out for the largest investment in its current mining operation.

In third place, Cajamarca remained with US$ 233 million, meaning 8.4% of the total participation, a region in which Minera Yanacocha SRL stands out for its greater amount of investment executed.

On the other hand, the BEM shows that, in the first seven months of the year, the accumulated mining investment was US$2,781 million, that is, 9.9% more than the US$2,530 million for the same period in 2021.

In July 2022 alone, mining investments totaled US$439 million. This figure showed an increase of 4.9% in relation to the value belonging to the same month of 2021, which was for US$ 419 million.
