Dutch Spartak Moscow player accused of cocaine trafficking

Dutch striker Quincy Promes, from Spartak Moscow, already tried in the Netherlands for having stabbed a cousin, is now accused of having imported cocaine, the country’s justice said on Tuesday.

Promes, 31, is accused, along with another Dutch citizen, of having imported “several hundred kilos” of cocaine in January 2020, mainly through the port of Antwerp (Belgium), the Dutch Public Ministry informed the AFP.

The player was initially charged with attempted murder, but after hearing several testimonies, the prosecution concluded that there was not enough evidence to establish that the objective was to kill the victim.

In early 2021, Promes left Ajax for Spartak Moscow, where he had already played for four seasons, from 2014 to 2018.

In the same year, he went to the Euro Cup with the Dutch national team as a reserve and, since then, he has not been called up.
