Land borders of Tacna and Tumbes would reopen on December 1, Mincetur predicts

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Roberto Sánchez, announced this Thursday, November 25 that it is very likely that the reopening of the land borders of Tacna and Tumbes will take place on December 1, through a Supreme decret issued by the Executive Power.

The official revealed that there is the will of the Peruvian Government TO promote the economic reactivation of these regions, that sustain their income, mainly, with the arrival of visitors and present an important advance in vaccination. For this reason, the Ministry of Commerce began the initiative Tourism and Trade Without Borders, which promotes vaccination in border departments and strict compliance with biosafety protocols.

“Several Mincetur teams have been deployed in recent days to Tacna, Tumbes and Puno, carrying out technical visits and working meetings with regional and local authorities, the business sector and civil society. Their requests were heard and how significant the clearance of the border crossings is. Minister Sánchez also mentioned that he will present shortly, in an extraordinary session of the Council of Ministers, the real situation of the border regions where it is essential to reactivate the economy with the authorization of the border crossing, mainly for the benefit of the population dedicated to the tourism and foreign trade.

Thus, he commented that, at the same time, the Executive Power has been preparing the legal norm that will allow the reopening of Tacna and Tumbes. Regarding the biosafety protocol project, he explained that it is being evaluated by the General Directorate of Strategic Interventions in Public Health of the Ministry of Health (Minsa).
