On April 27, the Plenary of the Congress of the Republic approved, by majority, to declare National holiday on June 7 in commemoration of the battle of Arica and the Day of the Peruvian Flag. However, after more than a month, the Executive power has not promulgated said norm in the Official Gazette El Peruano. As is known, it is always up to the Government to approve the laws approved by the Parliament. Once it has the green light, the norm is ready for its respective promulgation. However, this is not the case of the project approved by the Plenary that modifies Legislative Decree No. 713.

Holiday June 7 is not yet official

As explained by the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE) to La República, to date, the Government The autograph has not yet been promulgated, therefore, this June 7 is not yet considered a national holiday. However, the Executive is still within 15 business days to be able to make it official.

As shown in the procedural status of the PL, although the law was approved on April 27, the autograph It was only sent to the presidential office on May 15, for which reason the deadline for its promulgation or observation still expires on June 5.

What happens if the Government does not promulgate a law that declares a holiday on June 7?

In case the Executive does not take any action until the last day of the term that it has, it remains in the prerogative of Congress to promulgate said norm. Even if the aforementioned law is published on June 6 in the official bulletin of El Peruano, it will be considered a holiday. on the national calendar.

Otherwise, the worker, both in the public and private sectors, must work this June 7 as a normal day and, therefore, will not receive additional bonuses from the companies.

The legislative initiative was presented by Congressman Roberto Chiabra. This was approved on the first ballot with 91 votes in favour. After that, it was decided to exonerate from the second vote with 82 votes in favor.
