Champion and top scorer, Haaland is elected the best player in the Premier League

This Saturday, Norwegian star Erling Haaland, from Manchester City, received the Premier League Player of the Season award. With 36 goals, the number 9 is the competition’s top scorer, being a key player in winning the team’s third consecutive championship.

The brand, incidentally, decreed a new Premier League record. He surpassed the 34 goals scored by Andy Cole, in 1993/94, and Alan Shearer, in 1994/95, in a single national season. However, both appeared in 40 and 42 games respectively, while Haaland played in 35 games.

The striker won the award after public voting, combined with that of 20 club captains and a panel of football experts, beating seven other nominees: teammate De Bruyne, forwards Harry Kane of Tottenham, Marcus Rashford of Manchester United, and Bukayo Saka, from Arsenal, midfielder Martin Odegaard, also from the Gunners, and full-back Kieran Trippier, from Newcastle.

Haaland took another individual award

In addition, Haaland was named Premier League Young Player of the Season, a trophy introduced in 2018/19 when it was won by Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and awarded to the best under-23 player in the competition. In this award, he surpassed Sven Botman and Alexander Isak, both from Newcastle, Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister, both from Brighton, Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka, the three from Arsenal.

This was the first time in history that a player won both individual trophies in the same season. In an interview with Manchester City’s official website, the 22-year-old striker celebrated his achievements.

“I am honored to have become the first player to win both awards in the same season – thank you to everyone who voted for me. It’s been an incredible first season in the Premier League and lifting the trophy last weekend in front of our fans at the Etihad was a very special moment for me,” he said.

“These awards would not be possible without my incredible teammates, the manager and all the club staff who help me perform on the pitch. Now we have two more finals ahead of us and we want to finish the season strong.”

Finally, with a chance to further expand the brand in the championship’s artillery, Haaland and Manchester City enter the field this Sunday, against Brentford, at 12:30 pm (Brasília), away from home, for the last round of the Premier League.
