At least 344,833 new suitable jobs were created between October 2020 and October 2021, according to INEC data

Adequate employment in Ecuador had a significant rebound in October 2021. The number of workers who have a suitable job, that is, earn at least the basic salary and work at least 40 hours a week, went from 2′339.425 in October 2020 to 2′684.258. This means that 344,833 people joined the ranks of workers with suitable jobs in one year. The data was revealed a few minutes ago by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC) when posting the Survey of Employment, Underemployment and Unemployment corresponding to the month of October. For the INEC this growth represents a statistically significant variation.

Meanwhile, a significant drop in unemployment can also be noted in Ecuador. The The unemployed in the country went from 477,372 in October 2020, which represented 5.8% of the Economically Active Population (EAP) to 384,204 in October 2021, that is, 4.6% of the EAP. The INEC also indicates this variation as a statistically significant difference.

It is also important to note that the greater reduction in Unemployment has occurred in the urban area that went from 7.6% to 5.7%

Among other data, the INEC indicated that the Economically Active Population in Ecuador reached 8.4 million in October 2021, while the economically inactive population stands at 4.3 million people.

Despite these good results, The figures also reveal that gender gaps in employment continue to exist. In October 2021, the average labor income for a man with a job was $ 308.4, while for a woman with a job it was $ 240.2. Similarly, in the issue of weekly hours worked, on average for men it was 37.16 and for women 30.07. In the case of men, this figure represents a recovery, since in October 2020 it was 35.5 hours. On the other hand, for women the indicated decreases slightly, since in October 2020 it was 30.23.
