Metropolitan Lima registered annualized inflation (September 2021-August 2022) fell from 8.74% in July to 8.40% in August, after an advance of 0.67% in the last month and an accumulated variation of 6.13% so far this year, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).
The result to the eighth month of the year was driven by the rise in the transport divisions, which in the last twelve months grew 12.8% mainly influenced by the cost of fuels and lubricants that increased 31.41%; as well as road and air passenger transport services, which increased in price by 13.01% and 15.74%, respectively.
In this same period, prices also rose in the divisions of recreation and culture (7.11%), restaurants and hotels (9.50%), health (3.82%), education (3.75%), and communications (1.32%).
Inflation in August was 0.67%
The monthly result was mainly influenced by the rise observed in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages divisions (1.71%) due to the higher prices of fish and shellfish such as bonito, horse mackerel, mackerel and mackerel; eviscerated chicken and its cuts, among other products.
The prices of Accommodation, Water, Electricity (1.23%) also had an influence, due to the increase in electricity rates and natural gas consumption, and Restaurants and Hotels (0.63%) due to the increase in the menu, chicken the grill, chicken broth and ceviche.
To a lesser extent, the prices of Education (0.68%), Health (0.67%), Miscellaneous Goods and Services (0.51%), Furniture, Household Items and Ordinary Home Maintenance (0. 33%), Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco and Narcotics (0.28%), Clothing and Footwear (0.26%) and Recreation and Culture (0.21%).
On the other hand, prices in the Transportation divisions fell (-0.87%) mainly due to lower gasohol and LPG prices for vehicles, national and international airfare and interprovincial bus fares due to the normalization of the service after national holidays; as well as in Communications (-0.13%) due to the reduction of the rates in some internet and packaged service consumption plans; and mobile telephone equipment.
Inflation at the national level reached 0.62% in August
In August, the National Consumer Price Index grew 0.62%, due to the rise in prices observed in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (1.37%), Accommodation, Water, Electricity and Gas (1.07%) divisions. %), Restaurants and Hotels (0.68%), Health (0.56%), Miscellaneous Goods and Services (0.54%), Education (0.49%), Furniture, Household Items (0.42 %), Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (0.40%), Clothing and Footwear (0.37%) and Recreation and Culture (0.24%).
On the contrary, the prices of Transportation (-0.55%) and Communications (-0.10%) fell.
At the city level, the highest variations were observed in Chiclayo (0.94%), Ica (0.85%), Cajamarca (0.80%), Huaraz (0.73%), Chachapoyas (0.71% ) and Iquitos (0.70%). While, the cities with negative results were Pucallpa (-0.18%) and Moyobamba (-0.14%).
