Another death to solve occurred in Russia amid the conflict the country is waging with Ukraine. This time it was an official from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

In recent days, the death of 46-year-old Pyotr Kucherenko, who worked as deputy science minister, became known after he felt unwell on Saturday on his return flight from Cuba.

A statement from the ministry indicated that “the plane landed in the town of Mineralnye Vody, where the doctors tried to help”, although it could not be saved.

A source close to Kucherenko’s family said they believe he may have had a heart condition, but the autopsy will not take place until Wednesday. His wife is pop singer Diana Gurtskaya.

CNN quoted a freelance journalist who fled Russia after the invasion of Ukraine as saying he spoke to the official before escaping and told him he feared for his safety. He also told him that it was not possible for him to flee because they took their passports and described the invasion as fascist.

He is also said to have taken antidepressants.

At least 13 high-profile Russians have died in mysterious circumstances in the past 15 months.
