With the COVID-19 pandemic, Peru regressed three decades in tourism and this year it is expected that 34 million trips will be made internally, according to the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Juan Carlos Mathews.
The upward trend would continue after the 27 million trips registered in 2022, in an area in which 45% is made up of internal tourism. The rest contemplates the receptive (foreigners).
In dialogue with Andina, the official assured that, “If Peru continues to grow as it is now and recover business confidence”, the sector can do even better.
Although, regarding the reception of travelers from abroad, Mathews stressed that the main emitters are the United States and Chile, but the flows are just normalizing after the warnings about insecurity in Peru.
Finally, regarding the government’s support for mypes, Mathews acknowledged that he is not in favor of direct capital injections, but there has been a good response from these companies and, therefore, it is crucial to continue supporting them for their reactivation.
