Leaving monetary poverty aside, the regions where the scarcity of basic services such as health, education, and housing —that is, multidimensional poverty— affects more Peruvians are Loreto (58.6%), Huánuco (57%), Ucayali (49.8%) and Cajamarca (49.5%), according to Enaho figures.
In this regard, from ComexPerú, it is noted that The situation is worrisome in Huánuco and Cajamarca, since, in terms of the monetary dimension, their poverty rate is high: 42.2% and 44.3%, respectively.
On the other hand, in Ucayali (22.5%) and Loreto (39.8%), the incidence of poor Peruvians in terms of income is relatively lower.
The union points out that the country’s most important challenge is to reduce multidimensional poverty, since “it is not enough to reduce monetary poverty and improve family income, if they do not have access to basic services that guarantee a decent standard of living” .
In this sense, they emphasized that one in two people in the mentioned regions does not have access to at least one of the basic services.
Other departments affected by the increase in multidimensional poverty are Ayacucho (47%), Puno (46.9%) and Pasco (38.6%).
