A new savings and credit cooperative in Arequipa was dissolved by the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS). It is the Confiar cooperative.
“They told me not to worry, that everything is regulated and that its operation was guaranteed, at least until 2028. They deceived us,” says Yover Bedoya, a saver who entrusted his money to this cooperative. The citizen is looking for, together with other victims, to start a judicial process against the entity until they get all their savings back.
According to SBS resolution 01765-2023, published yesterday in the official newspaper El Peruano, the dissolution is due to the fact that the cooperative incurred in the cause of inactivity.
The SBS verified that the cooperative’s main office, located at 219 Elías Aguirre street in the Miraflores district, closed without prior notice or authorization from the superintendency. The verification was made from May 3 to May 17 of this year.
Therefore, the resolution to dissolve the cooperative was issued the following day: May 18.
They gave them excuses
The saver Yover Bedoya confirmed this fact. He said that they first stopped working at the Miraflores office, when they went they were told that the local electrical system was failing, that the computer system also had problems and that they could not withdraw the money.
For this reason, they went to the office on Avenida La Paz in the city’s Cercado. “They told me the same thing, that there was no system. They cut the hours and only attended, first until 6 and then until 5,” says the saver.
Bedoya returned on May 12 to try to withdraw his money as he became suspicious. He found that they had only attended until noon.
This cooperative began operating in 2019, when in February it requested its registration in the Coopac registry.
The SBS appointed Edwin Esquivias Astete as the cooperative’s main temporary administrator for the dissolution process. Also to Jennifer Arévalo Morales as alternate temporary administrator.
They are empowered to prepare the statement of financial position of the cooperative❖
