Remittance shipments from Peruvian workers from abroad reached US$ 942 million in the first quarter of 2023. This figure is 5.1% higher compared to the same months in 2022, reported the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).
In detail, the greater remittance of money from Peruvian emigrants was mainly due to the recovery of employment in the United States, Country where most of the remittances come from. According to the Employment Report of the Department of Labor of that country, 253,000 net jobs were created in the United States, 17,000 more than in March.
On the other hand, the BCRP also reported that the annualized deficit of the current account of the balance of payments fell to 2.9% in the first quarter of this year, 0.3 percentage points lower than that registered in the same period. of 2022.
This was due to lower profits from companies with foreign direct investment (IDE) and the decrease in maritime import freight; which was partially offset by the lower trade surplus (lower volumes exported and worsening terms of trade)
